At Stash Tea, our goal is your complete satisfaction. If within 30 days you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, return it for a prompt exchange or refund. Shipping and handling charges are non-refundable.

About our teas

Can I drink tea past the best before date?

With proper storage and handling, from first cup to last cup we know the quality of the tea will have the same wonderful taste you have come to enjoy until the Best Before date. But even with proper storage and handling we cannot guarantee the quality of the tea if it has made it beyond this date. It still may be as fresh as the day you bought it, or it could have gone stale, it is hard to judge as tea's have their own characters and the environments where they live can differ. If your tea is beyond its best before date our best recommendation is to purchase a new batch of tea to ensure the best cup. But we leave it to your best judgement to steep a cup and see how it is. Otherwise it makes for great compost!

What is natural flavoring?

All Stash Tea products are all natural, meaning the natural flavor(s) or natural flavoring used have been derived from natural sources. There are no artificial flavorings, colors, sweeteners or preservatives used in our products.

According to the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR), the term natural flavor means “the essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional.”

Furthermore, our Kosher Parve certification precludes the use of meat, poultry, dairy and shellfish derived ingredients, and our allergen control program precludes the use of egg, milk and fish derived ingredients.Together, these certifications cover and prevent the use of any natural flavorings that contain ingredients of or derived from meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, and dairy products.

I can't find my tea in the quantity I'm used to ordering, what's going on?

We are excited to be transitioning to our beautiful 18 and 20 count boxes. Over the next few months you will start to see our teas transition over and most teas will not be offered in 30 count boxes, our teas will now be available by the box or by the case. This change allows us to reduce waste by eliminating unnecessary packaging. We listened to our customers and decided to transition to our branded new boxes which are great to gift, especially during the holiday season. These boxes feature a better flavor description and the bold colors and images make it easier to find the flavor you are looking for in your tea drawer or cabinet. We appreciate your patience and understanding with this packaging change.

Where are the ingredients for your teas sourced from?

We scour the earth to find the best quality ingredients for our teas! In addition to FDA and EPA regulations, ingredient suppliers must also sign our Supplier Code of Conduct, which you can look over here. Our teas are sold in the EU and Japan so our teas must be able to pass the stringent regulations that are in place in those countries. Our team regularly visits the farms where our ingredients are grown to ensure that we have a working relationship with our farmers and so that we can see the magic happening for ourselves!

How are your loose leaf teas packaged?

Our loose leaf teas are packaged in resealable bags that are designed to keep out light, moisture and air.

Does your tea contain any calories?

With the exception of a few flavors of loose leaf teas, all of our teas are calorie free!

Are your teas caffeinated?

Any tea that is made using the tea plant (such as green tea, black tea, oolong, and white tea) naturally contains caffeine.

Herbal infusions (often referred to as “herbal tea”) do not actually contain tea leaves and therefore typically do not contain caffeine, with a few exceptions, such as yerba mate, guayusa, and cocoa shells. Our decaf teas contain trace amounts of caffeine, as the decaffeination method does not remove all caffeine; however, typically no more than 0.4% caffeine remains.

How much caffeine is in your tea?

At this time we do not test our teas for caffeine content. Contrary to popular belief, caffeine content cannot be categorized based on tea type (for example, the idea that black tea contains more caffeine than green tea). Recent studies have shown that the caffeine content of teas can and do vary, sometimes significantly, even among the same type of tea.

It is quite difficult to estimate how much caffeine is in tea because it depends on so many factors. Studies have shown that the amount of caffeine in the tea depends on a number of factors which include the variety or cultivar of tea leaves, the cultivating age, the growing environment, the growing methods, the manufacturing conditions, and the preparation of the actual tea infusion. All of these factors can greatly influence the caffeine level in teas.

Our single serve cup teas are compatible with the following machines:

What is the shelf life of your teas?

Tea Bags: 3 years
Loose Leaf Tea: 2 years

To keep your tea as fresh as possible, all teas should be kept away from direct light, moisture and air; the best storage would be inside a closed cabinet.

How do you ensure the purity and quality of your teas?

Since 1972, we've been proud to offer our customers high-quality teas—that's our commitment and our mission. We adhere to several policies to ensure our tea is of the finest and purest quality.

First, we buy our teas directly from the world's premier tea gardens and only conduct business with reputable suppliers, most of whom we have worked with for years. We also require every vendor to sign a certificate of compliance based on U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
We also set equally high standards for our herbal and spiced teas by purchasing herbs and spices whole from the world's best sources. We mill them right before blending for superior taste and flavor. They are also tested according to strict guidelines set by the American Spice Trade Association, the Food and Drug Administration, and our own stringent guidelines. The flavors and extracts used in our teas are always 100% natural.

In addition, our line of organic teas is certified organic by the USDA and Quality Assurance International (QAI). QAI is an internationally recognized professional organic certification service. Their program certifies that every step in the life of a food product is organic—from the land where the product is grown, to the growers' practices, to the post-harvest facilities and to the final processing and handling.

Do Stash teas contain lead?

Stash Tea supports the position of the Tea Association of the USA in noting that tea continues to not only be one of the most consumed beverages in the world—second only to water—but also continues to be a safe and healthful beverage. Recent testing has shown 'no detectable presence' of lead, arsenic, cadmium or mercury in brewed tea.

Trace amounts of lead and other minerals are a part of nature and a byproduct of agriculture and industrialization. They are present in our soil and water. These minerals are inherent and unavoidable where food crops are grown and animals used for food are raised. Regulatory agencies, such as the Food and Drug Administration and other international and state agencies that oversee the safety of our foods, have clearly stated that these naturally occurring trace levels of minerals (such as lead) are safe to consume and do not pose a risk to human health. The teas that Stash Tea produces are 100% safe to consume. We procure our teas and herbs from the highest quality sources around the world. Our suppliers must adhere to a strict Supplier Code of Conduct and sign our Supplier Agreement in order to achieve our "preferred vendor" status. If suppliers cannot supply critical and vital documentation that supports their practices and values, we do not do business with them.

We understand the desire to learn as much as possible about lead in consumable products. As we network with other leading tea companies and with our tea growers, we will continue to gather accurate and factual information to share with our customers.

What decaffeination method does Stash Tea use?

Our decaf teas are decaffeinated using a chemical-free CO2 process. It ensures that the tea is decaffeinated very gently, preserving the majority of the tea’s flavor. Our black, green and white teas are decaffeinated using carbon dioxide, the same compound that plants breathe in daily. This process is known as effervescent decaffeination.

Our decaffeination process does not employ harmful chemicals and the CO2 is recycled afterwards. This method is considered natural and removes most of the caffeine.

What is the filter paper made of that you use in your tea bags? Does it contain plastic like polypropylene?

The filter paper used for Stash Tea bags is made from 100% cellulose fibers (wood). Stash tea bag filter paper is machine folded and pressed, therefore no glue is needed or used. Our teabags are completely compostable and do not contain any plastic.

Test results conclude that chlorine dioxide is not present in our tea bag filter paper. The filter paper is not coated with the compound epichlorohydrin, and does not contain any free epichlorohydrin.

Why do my teabags have a black or green tea tag with no tea name?

We are currently in the process of refreshing our brand. This includes newly designed black and white Stash logo tags to match the new look of our packaging for all tea flavors. In the interim, some tea flavor lots will be using our Stash logo green tags.

Do your teas contain gluten or any allergens?

We actively maintain signed statements from our ingredient suppliers stating that all ingredients purchased by Stash Tea Company are gluten-free. We do not use barley malt in any of our blends.

We collect statements from our ingredient suppliers stating that all of the ingredients we purchase are free of the eight U.S. recognized allergens (e.g., milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans). Therefore, to the best of our knowledge and according to our suppliers, our teas do not contain these eight allergens.

Are your teas Kosher certified?

All of our teas and facilities are certified Kosher Parve by KOF-K Kosher Supervision, one of the foremost certification agencies in the United States. Our products are not Kosher for Passover.

General Shopping Questions

Is it safe to order online during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Our shipping department will be practicing increased sanitary and health measures, even beyond our regular high-quality practices, and staff is encouraged to practice social distancing. Even though we keep monitoring the situation, you might be wondering “Is it safe to order products online?” The World Health Organization has the answer, and they’ve made it clear that it is safe to handle a package, even if it comes from a place where the virus has been reported.

Can the wrappers my teabags are packaged in be recycled?

At this time, the foil wrappers can not be recycled. We are looking into more environmentally responsible options but haven't yet found packaging that meets our needs. Our teabags, strings and tags are compostable and our boxes can be recycled.

Do you have a print catalog?

We do not have inventory information for specific teas at this level. All of our teas are available for sale on our website. If you are looking for a particular item, click here to find it in your local store.

Where can I find a retailer in my area that sells Stash Tea products?

I forgot my password. How can I update it?

Go to Sign In at the top of the page. On the lefthand side of the page, click on the "Forgot Password?" link. Enter your email address and a password reset email will be sent to you.

I have shopped at StashTea.com before but can’t log in to my account.

You will need to create a new account if you placed your order before Feb 17, 2016, the launch date of our new website. For security purposes, you will need to create a new account and password. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Order Issues

I need to make an adjustment on my order.

Please contact us as soon as possible by calling 800-800-8327, if we are unavailable please leave us a message. We are unable to edit an order that has already been placed, however if you contact us as soon as possible we are usually able to cancel your order and send out a draft order with the corrections you requested.

An item I received arrived damaged!

Bummer! Don't worry, we'll take care of this. Please submit a Return and Exchanges form, linked here, so that we can address this issue as soon as possible. Please be sure to include an image that we can pass along to our shipping department.

I received my order but I was shipped the incorrect product.

Oh no, we're so sorry about that! Please fill out our contact form, linked here, so that we can make this right. If you require immediate attention please call us at 800-800-8327. We're available Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Can you cancel my order?

Contact Customer Service as soon as possible at 800-800-8327 orsupport@stashtea.com to notify us that you would like to cancel your order. In most cases, we can cancel your order as long as it has not already been processed by our distribution center. Customer Service is available by phone Monday-Friday between 8am-4pm PST.

Placing An Order

What do I do if I entered the wrong shipping address?

You can contact us to cancel your order or change the shipping address. We cannot make changes to the items purchased.

If your order has already left our distribution center, there is a $12 processing fee to have the shipping address changed if your order shipped UPS. If your order shipped Postal Service, we can re-ship your order for $7.95 once the order shipped to the incorrect address has been returned to us.

Can I send items to multiple addresses in one order?

No, you can only process one shipping address per order.

How do I know if my order was processed?

As you place your order, please make sure the email address you enter is correct. If you have successfully placed an order, you will receive an order confirmation email within an hour. You will receive another email when your order ships. Please allow emails from support@stashtea.com through your spam filter.

Can I save the items in my cart?

By creating an account, items will stay in your shopping cart until you place an order. However, to keep track of items you would like to purchase, our recommendation is to add them to your wishlist. Click on the heart icon below a product image to save that item to your list. You must have an account to use this feature.

Payment Options

Stashtea.com accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. We also accept debit cards with a Visa or MasterCard logo.

Promotion Codes

Stash Tea promotion codes can be redeemed in the Promotion Code field in checkout, on the right-hand side. A promotion code reduces your basket subtotal only and does not apply toward shipping and handling or sales tax. Promotion codes cannot be applied to previous purchases. You can receive special promotions announcements by signing up for our newsletter in the form located on the bottom of our website.

Shipping & Returns

How COVID-19 is impacting shipping?

While we are not experiencing significant delays within our fulfillment center, and are able to still get orders out within 2 business days, we are unable to guarantee a delivery time frame for orders at this time.

All postal services are experiencing a significant increase in demand for their services and a decrease in staff that is able to work. As a result, we are seeing minor to significant delays in the arrivals of orders, especially those that are being shipped outside of the US, at this time.

We encourage you to reach out to the postal service with your tracking information for any questions, concerns, or alternate plans regarding your order's delivery. We appreciate your patience during these unique times.

How do you calculate sales and use tax?

Stash Tea Company uses tax software to calculate the tax on purchases. The amount of tax charged on your order depends on the type of item purchased and the shipment or delivery address of your order. The tax calculated on your order may change; therefore, "Estimated Tax" is displayed at Check Out when confirming an order. The amounts displayed as estimated tax may then be updated later when your order is finalized and completed.

The tax rate applied to your order will be the combined state and local rates of the address where your order is delivered to. For example, if you live in a state that does not impose a sales tax, you may still see tax calculated on your order if shipped to another state. Food (tea and loose tea - if taxable), may have a lower rate of tax. In some states, if an item is taxable the shipping and/or gift wrapping could be taxable. Can you tell me about your shipping charges?

At Stash Tea, our goal is to deliver your purchase in the quickest and most economical way possible. Standard delivery is shipped via UPS or the U.S. Postal Service.
