We are honored to bring Bitaco Tea plantation’s Wiry Black Tea to our customers and know you’ll fall in love with the look and unique taste of Colombia’s finest tea. Wiry Black Tea is grown on the Bitaco tea plantation at over 6,000 feet above sea level in the beautiful mist-capped Andes Mountains of Colombia. Located in the bio-geographic region of Chocó, the area is characterized by its subtropical rainfall, and exceptional biodiversity alongside a thriving, protected rain forest.

Throughout Bitaco’s 55 year history, political violence has overtaken Colombia several times resulting in armed invasions and guerrilla warfare. The region and plantation were deeply affected during these periods resulting in loss of lives, vehicles, supplies and disruptions in the labor force. Each time they have managed to eventually pick up the pieces and rebuild. Thankfully, Colombia now has a peace agreement and all such activities have ceased.

Stash Tea applauds the Bitaco tea pioneers and we were deeply touched by their moving story that highlights the extraordinary power of the human spirit to persevere even in the face of insurmountable adversity.

Bitaco Tea plantation is now thriving. They have shown admirable support for their community through the creation of the Agricola Himalaya Foundation, which has helped develop and improve programs focusing on infrastructure, education for the region’s children, recreational opportunities, local culture, and access to technology.

Very smooth and aromatic tea. Brews full flavor in 4 minutes and has a wonderful amber color. Good with honey too.
