Stash Creme Caramel was inspired by Dulce de Leche, South America's cherished caramel dessert. Dulce de Leche, which means "sweet dessert of milk" in Spanish, is a traditional confection made by boiling cream and sugar together until it turns into a rich and creamy caramel treat.

Legend has it that Dulce de Leche was discovered by accident in the early 1800's by a servant who had forgotten to put out the coals underneath a pot of lechada (boiled milk and sugar). After cooking for over an hour, the servant discovered the thick and golden brown concoction and found it to be a decadent treat.
