Stash Royal Ring Green Tea

Chinese Royal Ring green tea is famous for its outstanding quality, exquisite fragrance, mellow flavor and its unique shape. It is grown in the beautiful mountainous areas of the Simao region of Yunnan at an elevation of 4000 feet, where ideal temperatures and fertile soils provide perfect conditions for tea. The Simao region is famous for its skilled tea makers and handmade specialty teas. Royal Ring is produced in very limited quantities, and is considered a precious gift to give visitors to China.

There are strict rules for plucking and processing the Royal Ring tea. All tea is plucked during the spring season and always before noon. The tea is never picked on rainy or dewy days as the leaves will contain too much moisture. Only the two top leaves and bud are picked one at a time. This ideal blend of tea leaves produces the sweetest, most delicate tea possible. The leaves are then hand - rolled one at a time which requires many years of experience. The final stage of pan - frying the leaves requires great skill to match the temperature to the tenderness of the leaves. The finished leaves are a natural color and are tightly curled, resembling a jade ring.

When infused, large, beautiful light green leaves are revealed. The tea brews to a refreshing, fragrant liquor with a light golden color and not a hint of astringency.

Recent scientific studies have shown that green tea (black and oolong teas to a lesser extent) may reduce the risk of many chronic health problems. The natural chemical compounds in tea called polyphenols, have been studied for their health benefits. Polyphenols also give tea its characteristic astringency. The primary polyphenols found in teas are called catechins, which make up 30-40% of the dry weight of tea. Polyphenols are reported to suppress cancer producing cells, increase our natural detoxification defenses, and lower blood pressure.
