If you appreciate a robust, full-bodied tea, try our Manohari Estate Assam. It features the distinctive maltiness of Assams and brews a deep color in the cup. It is an excellent afternoon tea and goes well with a splash of milk and sugar.
The renowned Manohari Tea Estate is situated in the upper region of Assam, at an elevation of 390 feet above sea level. More than 1,000 acres of the estate are planted with tea bushes.
The Assam valley in India is 120 miles to the east of Darjeeling and on the border of China, Burma, and Bangladesh. It produces more black tea than any other area on earth, with the probable exception of a few places in China.
Assam is proof that not all fine quality tea has to be high grown. In fact, this rainy valley is the birthplace of Indian tea. An Englishman, Robert Bruce, discovered the plant growing wild here in 1823, and the first commercial lot of tea ever produced outside of China -- eight chests in all -- came from Assam in 1839.
