Portland, Oregon, the home of the Stash Tea company, is known as the 'City of Roses'. The unique combination of rich volcanic soil and abundant moisture, coupled with a long, mild spring creates the perfect conditions for growing world - class roses.
In 1985, Stash Tea developed this special tea blend in honor of the Portland Rose Festival held each June. To create this romantic blend, we combine fragrant Oregon rose petals, Rose Lychee Congou black tea from China, Nilgiri black tea from India and natural raspberry flavor. Rosebud tea has grown in popularity over the years and has developed some loyal fans who love its unique flavor.
Prized since the dawn of history, roses are known as the queen of flowers. In early times, roses were used in festivals, consumed as food, and rose water was used medicinally. Today an infusion made from rose petals is used in cooking, and rose oil is used in many perfumes. The velvety petals retain their scent after drying and are a major ingredient for potpourri.
Although China produces a lot of great black teas, very little black tea is consumed in China. Rose Lychee Congou is one notable exception. 'Congou' is derived from 'kung - fu' which means 'produced through skill and effort', which refers to the extra processing required to produce black teas instead of the more common Chinese green teas. The black tea is then scented by exposure to aromatic rose petals, which lends a mild, flowery fragrance to the tea. Next, the juice of the lychee fruit is added to give the tea a light, fruity, slightly sweet flavor.
'Nilgiri' is a Tamil word that means 'Blue Mountains'. A lush range at the southernmost tip of India, the Blue Mountains rise over the Indian Ocean with a view toward Africa. It is a land of peaks and valleys lush with vegetation and teeming with wildlife, most notably elephants. The area is drenched by monsoons during August and September, and the best teas are harvested during December and January. Nilgiris are full bodied Indian teas with light color and aroma. They are smooth and easy to drink.
The delicate flavor and pleasing aroma of this tea are especially enjoyable in the afternoon. Rosebud goes very well with light desserts or snacks and can be made part of any celebration.
