In many parts of the world, the mango is the most popular of all fruits. In India the mango has been cultivated for thousands of years and at one time in its history, mango trees were considered status symbols.
In the 1500's, Portuguese traders took the mango from India to Africa and from there it spread around the world, reaching Brazil in the 18th century and Florida and Hawaii in the 19th century. Although the mango is now grown extensively around the world, India is still the number one producer.
Mangoes can range from 2 to 10 inches in length and can weigh from under a quarter pound to almost five pounds each. The skin can be greenish yellow, red, orange or a combination of all these colors.
The mango has been so popular due to its rich, juicy, sweet flavor and highly aromatic scent. It is widely used in cooking and its juice is used in many tropical beverages.
To create our Mango tea, we've taken the natural, sweet flavor of mango and added it to a blend of fine southern Indian and Chinese teas. The fruitiness of the mango blends well with the black tea resulting in a cup that is refreshing and lightly stimulating.
Mango tea is a nice accompaniment to spicy meals but it is a pleasurable sipping experience all by itself. Late morning is a great time to enjoy this blend. And, as you may have guessed, it makes a fantastic iced tea.
