Ruby Mist is a flavorful combination of hibiscus from China, peppermint and orange peel from the U.S., lemongrass from Thailand, cinnamon from Indonesia, and rosehips from Chile. This tea has a beautiful ruby red color with a flavor that is tart with a hint of mint and cinnamon.
One of the key ingredients of Ruby Mist, Chinese hibiscus, is tart and slightly lemony in flavor. Hibiscus is an evergreen plant with leaves similar to those of a maple tree. It grows to 2 to 6 feet and thrives kept moist in loose loamy soil with full sun. Its large flowers are usually red but may be orange to purplish-red and kidney shaped. The flowers last only a day, with new buds every day during harvest. Stash sources the finest whole hibiscus flowers from China and cuts them just before blending to ensure the tea blend is as flavorful as possible.
Stash Peppermint is exclusively from top quality Oregon grown peppermint, considered the world's finest. Oregon's deep rich soil, moist cool winters, and dry sunny summers provide mint growers with the natural tools to produce this fine peppermint. Harvested in July and August, the peppermint is then dried and sold as leaf or for peppermint oil. Stash Tea purchases its peppermint leaf directly from Oregon farmers. It is sent from Oregon fields to the Stash Tea plant where it is packaged to protect the freshness and menthol content. The peppermint leaf can help soothe a nagging cough and help alleviate sore throats and allergies.
Lemongrass is a tall tropical grass which has a wonderful fresh lemon aroma and flavor. This beautiful plant is found in India, tropical Asia, Africa, South America, Australia, and in the states of Florida and California in the U.S. Lemongrass lends a wonderful flavor to Asian cooking, especially Thai, Malay and Indonesian dishes. The essential oil in lemongrass, citral, gives lemongrass its distinctive citrus flavor. In fact, citral is often used as a substitute for lemon oil.
Roses have been prized since the dawn of history and are known as the queen of flowers. After the velvety petals have fallen away the small, round, red fruit or "hip" is revealed. In herbal healing the rosehip (also called the hipberry) is prized for its vitamin C content, one of the best natural sources for vitamin C. In fact, ounce for ounce, rosehips are higher in vitamin C than oranges .
Stash sources its orange peel from the best California Valencia oranges. Valencias are the sweetest and most flavorful orange grown. Our orange peel is produced right from the juice production line to retain the original citrus oil and vitamin C of the fresh fruit, resulting in a richer, stronger flavor.
Cinnamon, one of the oldest known spices, is native to Sri Lanka where it thrives in the hot moist climate. Cinnamon comes from the bark of an evergreen laurel tree that has shiny leaves, yellowish white flowers and dark blue berries. It grows to 33 feet in the wild and likes sandy soil. The longest and best pieces of the bark are hand rolled and dried into quills. When they reach the right moisture they are tan in color, smooth, thin and brittle. Most cinnamon is powdered and used in cooking. Cinnamon is naturally sweet with a delightfully spicy, woody fragrance due to the essential oils found in its bark. And its taste is intense and warm.
In blending this cornucopia of ingredients we have created a tea that is unique, flavorful and healthy. Ruby Mist can be enjoyed any time of the day as it is naturally caffeine free. It is delicious hot or iced and is especially good during the cold and flu season.
