The main ingredient in Wintermint, spearmint, is one of the best known and most popular of the mints. It is a creeping plant that hybridizes easily, producing infinite variations. The United States is the leading producer of spearmint and peppermint, particularly Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wisconsin, and Indiana. Mint oil is a well-known flavoring added to gums, candies, medicines, ointments, liquors, mouthwashes, toothpastes and other products.
Stash spearmint and peppermint leaf is sourced exclusively from top quality Oregon grown mint, which is considered the world's finest. Oregon's deep rich soil, moist cool winters and long dry sunny summers provide mint growers with the natural tools to produce spearmint and peppermint. The mint is harvested in July and August, and when dried, it is sold as leaf or to produce oil. Stash Tea purchases its mint leaf directly from Oregon farmers. It is sent from Oregon fields to the Stash plant where it is packaged to protect the freshness.
Mint leaves have been used medicinally for thousands of years. Studies show that both spearmint and peppermint help to stimulate the body and calm the stomach. Peppermint is one of the oldest and best tasting home remedies for indigestion. Mint can also help soothe a nagging cough, sore throats and allergies.
Cinnamon, native to Sri Lanka, is the dried bark of a tree of the Laurel family. It is one of the earliest sought after spices, with references to its use in the Bible and in ancient Egypt. The evergreen cinnamon tree grows to over 30 feet in the wild, but is kept shorter under cultivation. Cinnamon trees thrive in tropical maritime climates at low altitudes. The bark is harvested or peeled from the trees and made into quills by hand rolling and drying in the sun. The quills can be ground or processed into oil for cooking purposes. The sweet, somewhat woody aroma is fragrant and strong, and the flavor is very distinctive and warming.
The sweet orange is the most popular of all citrus fruits. Stash sources its orange peel from the best California Valencia oranges. Stash orange peels are produced right from their juice production line to retain the original citrus oil of the fresh fruit, resulting in a richer, stronger flavor.
All parts of the parsley plant are edible. The curled leaves and seeds are aromatic and rich in vitamins and minerals, such as magnesium and calcium. Parsley is eaten to freshen the breath, aid in digestion and to sweeten the stomach. It is often a garnish with main courses and is added to meats, soups and stews for flavor. And the root is eaten as a vegetable in the Middle East.
