Earl White

Legend has it that in 1830 Englishman Charles Earl Grey (the second Earl Grey) was on a diplomatic mission to China, when a mandarin presented him with the recipe for making this tea, now the most famous scented tea in the Western world.

The tea leaves in Earl Grey are usually a blend of Chinese black or Indian Darjeeling teas. For a lighter version of this popular tea, Stash uses premium white tea and 100% pure bergamot oil. This tea is delicate and smooth with a hint of bergamot, perfect for enjoying all day long.

White tea is a very rare, expensive connoisseurs tea that is produced in China, mainly Fukien (Fujian) province, famous for its prized white teas. It is difficult to obtain as production is extremely limited.

White tea comes from a rare strain of the tea plant and is harvested only a few days of the year. Once harvested, white tea is not oxidized or rolled, but simply withered and dried by steaming.

Researchers speculate that the processing of tea determines its cancer fighting potential. Because white tea goes through the least amount of processing, it theoretically has the most polyphenols (as some polyphenols are oxidized or destroyed during processing). These polyphenols have been linked to cancer prevention.

Bergamot or Citrus Bergamia Risso, also called the "prince's pear", is inedible, but its precious and fragrant oil is an ingredient in both perfume and food products. While citrus fruits are grown in many countries, bergamot is cultivated exclusively in a narrow strip of coastal land in the Reggio Calabria province of Southern Italy.

Bergamot is hand-picked in winter when the fruit is not quite ripe. The bergamot essence is extracted by a cold-pressed method using special "peeling" machines. The fragrant cold-pressed oil is then stored in special containers for a year or longer before sale.
