A blend of choice black teas with the delicate sweetness of Asian Dragonfruit.
For our Dragonfruit tea our master blender combines Assam and Nilgiri black teas from India, and Ceylon from Sri Lanka with exotic Dragonfruit flavor. The result is a rich, pleasantly sweet tea with a taste reminiscent of Lychee fruit.
Dragonfruit (Hylocereus sp.), a member of Cactaceae family, is cultivated in tropical regions worldwide. The ripe fruit is oval in shape with pink/ dark red skin. Its pulp is white and contains many seeds. These seeds give the fruit a sweet with a slightly acidic - melon like flavor.
On the border of China, Burma and Bangladesh, one hundred and twenty miles to the east of Darjeeling lies the Assam valley in India. The upper Assam valley is the largest tea producing area in the world and contains over 2000 tea gardens. The climate, the soil, and the indigenous tea plants genetic make-up give Assam teas their characteristic full-bodied strong taste and dark liquor. The best Assam teas are known for their unique maltiness.
"Nilgiri" is a Tamil word that means "Blue Mountains". The Blue Mountains are a lush range at the southernmost tip of India, rising over the Indian Ocean with a view toward Africa. It is a land of peaks and valleys lush with vegetation and teeming with wildlife, most notably elephants. Nilgiris are full bodied Indian teas with light color and aroma.
Ceylon, or its contemporary name, Sri Lanka, is a beautiful tropical island about the size of England that lies just 22 miles off the southern tip of India. Sri Lanka supplies about a quarter of the world's tea. The nearly six hundred thousand acres of tea under cultivation provide well over half of the island's export earnings. Ceylon teas enjoy the seasonal monsoons which encourage their growth. Select tender leaves result in a smoothness and light flavor.
