What is a Meyer Lemon?
Meyer Lemons are a cross between a lemon and a mandarin orange. This interesting little fruit was brought back from China in the early 1900s by Frank N. Meyer, who worked for the USDA as an Agricultural Explorer, collecting plant species. For the longest time Meyer Lemons were mostly used as decorative houseplants. Then lifestyle and food maven Martha Stewart began featuring them in recipes and the Meyer Lemon took off.

A cross between a lemon and a mandarin orange, the Meyer Lemon has smooth skin the color of a fresh egg yolk. They also have a thin edible rind, are very juicy and have none of the tartness of a regular lemon. Their aromatic, slightly sweet quality brightens many recipes. In fact, Meyer Lemons may be substituted for regular lemons whenever you want a burst of lemon flavor without the lip-puckering tartness.

Today the Meyer Lemon continues to grow in popularity. Loved by chefs and foodies, Meyer Lemons are found at farmers markets, grocery stores, and now in a delicious new herbal tea from Stash!
