In 1690 in Japan, the Yamamoto family began producing premium teas, a tradition that continues to this day. More than three centuries of experience go into the selection and processing of Yamamotoyama Teas, among the finest in the world.

  • Cups to Grams:
    • 8 grams makes 3-4 cups

It tastes...wrong. Just wrong.

When I read about this tea on this site, I thought it would be worth the college try. Green tea with rice? It sounded so interesting! HOWEVER…while it brewed, it smelled horrible. It smells EXACTLY like burning rice. So the smell was a turn off but I remained optimistic and tried it. With the first two sips, I didn’t like it and thought it needed more sugar. Didn’t work. Then I tried it with honey since some teas are better with honey than sugar, or vice versa. Nope. Still didn’t like it. It tasted like that breakfast cereal with the frog on the box. “Smacks” cereal-flavored tea…no, thank you. If you want a relaxing and tasteful tea that isn’t overpowering, I would not recommend Genmai Green Tea. But if you like the smell of burnt rice and the taste of Smacks cereal, by all means buy this tea.

I generally buy this loose leaf but couldn't pass up the sale. The tea bags are very handy. Genmai Green tea is a wonderful, unique flavor that sort of tastes like buttered popcorn tea. The toasted rice nicely complements the green tea giving it a delicious aroma and a delicate, toasty taste. While it is caffeinated, it does have less as the toasted rice that makes up the flavor nuances doesn't have caffeine. It really is yummy.

Thee Best Green Tea, From a Coffee Drinker

Let's face it, to American Coffee Drinkers like myself, Green tea is tastless and boring; except on rare occassion.

This tea is great because it has a real brewed flavor. The toasted rice gives it a warm, bready flavor, and makes you forget it's really boring green tea underneath.

My true favorite, I've got 100 bags in my cart right now! If you like bread/toasted tastes, you'll like this.

I can drink this plain, though often I like to add some sweet n low and/or vanilla soymilk.

This is as good as it gets, and is my favorite green tea.

It i perfect anytime and I am not sure why, but it is like "comfort tea"

My Japanese friends say this is their 'everyday' tea.

I love this tea! I'm a fan of brown rice, anyway, so having the nutty and toasted flavor of brown rice in this tea was a pleasant and welcome experience. I do not in any way like green tea, so this was originally purchased for my husband, who didn't care for it. This is the only "green" tea I'll drink. It's not flowery, it's not grassy, and it doesn't taste like perfume; it is a tea with subtle, nutty flavor. You'll just have to appreciate its simplicity in origin and complexity in taste to get out of this tea everything it brings to you.

Not like green tea

My husband is the green tea drinker in the family and has 6-7 different types. (I think it tastes like grass). He didn't even like this enough to take more than 3 drinks. We both think it smelled yucky when opening it. The added rice was just way off from the normal.

Gave the box to a friend who loved the smell of it. It's very different, just don't expect the normal green tea experience but may be worth trying .
