Product Details

Our interpretation of this classic Indian drink blends rich, flavorful Indian black teas with cinnamon, clove, ginger and cardamom. The brewed tea is very aromatic, with a flavor that is slightly sweet, strong, and penetrating, with lingering notes of almond. This tea is excellent plain or with milk (regular or evaporated) and sweetener. It is exceptional any time of day-as a rich morning cup, an enjoyable dessert tea, or as a special treat.

Some of the finest black tea in the world comes from India, the world's leading producer of tea. Included in these teas are the robust Assams, muscatel Darjeelings and well-balanced Nilgiris. However, most tea consumed in India is not enjoyed for its subtle flavor nuances, but instead is blended with sweet and pungent spices to make chai.

Chai is usually brewed very strong, often concentrated, with lots of sugar and milk. Traditional Indian chai combines rich black tea that is boiled in milk with local spices such as cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and occasionally black peppercorns, ginger, and red chilies. The drink is then sweetened with sugar.

Note: The 1000 ct tea bags are packaged loose in a box.

  • Ingredients: blended black teas, ginger root, cinnamon, natural cinnamon flavor, clove bud oil, allspice, clove, nutmeg, cardamom oil
  • Steeping Instructions: 3-5 minutes at 190-209 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Caffeinated: Yes

Mmm, spices

This is the tea to reach for when the weather turns wet and cold. Invite a friend over and pour a cup. I use one bag for each cup of water and when making a full pot, which is almost always, add an extra bag for the pot. Drink it British Navy style, which is as hot as possible, sweet and creamy. Try this for a change of pace, mix some sweetened organic evaporated milk with the boiling water and let steep for an extra minute. Be sure to stir the water and milk before adding the tea bags.

The perfect start to my morning!

I start every morning with a large mug, hot water, 2 chai spice black tea bags, and soy milk. I can't remember the last day I have gone without it, and even bring a zip lock bag full when I travel. Things that are great about it: tastes good and smooth, good caffeine strength, nice long tea bag strings for large mugs. Things that aren't so great: the foil in the tea bags makes them non-recyclable and would be better if they were just paper. I wish the tea bags had the same diverse spice flavor found in the loose leaf chai spice black tea.

Authentic Chai Masala Taste

This chai blend is the closest to the authentic recipe for masala chai that I have tasted in a bag ever. I have made the recipe myself for years. It is great for mornings, but i know tea drinkers who can drink tea all day and night, so it is optional. The taste is balanced very nicely, not too much of any of the spices. My only suggestion is that the black tea used could be a stronger blend. I often use an additional english breakfast tea bag (dunked a few times) to get the bold, full bodied taste that is most common to true indian chai. However, for many, that may be considered too strong. Overall, this is a perfect blend served hot or cold, most often prepared with milk but not a necessity for enjoyment.
